I’m trying to study anatomy at the moment and stumbled across a set of videos known as Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy. I thought I might share my discovery as these are truly impressive. Aimed at medical students, they seem to cover much more detail than an artist would need to know, but they are invaluable.
I was struggling to understand the shoulder region from my artists’ anatomy book and videos, but my knowledge has quadrupled after watching just a few minutes of Acland. It uses real dissected human specimens along with dry bones to explain things clearly and simply, making a very complex system like the shoulder seem completely straightforward.
There is a website that looks like it will have the videos online at some point, although it doesn’t seem completely up and running yet. It’ll be great when it is. You can find it at www.aclandanatomy.com
